It is back to school time!

It is back to school time!

Our classroom is all ready for the 1st day of school.  Our class bulletin board says "Measuring Up to Be a Great Class".  The student's names are listed on the picture frame. The first day of school I will take each child's picture and put it in the center of the frame! Students will write about how they contribute to making it a great class.

Each child will have a welcome bag waiting for them on their desk.

Our classroom is set up and ready to go!

In case anyone forgets a snack on the first day of school I have provided a snack!

First Day of School!

First Day of School!
The first day of school was a success! We had a very busy day!  We began the day talking about rules and then why rules are important.  Students then worked together to develop the rules for our classroom!  Next, we played "Simon Says" in which students had to answer questions about "Mrs. Shelp"'. This was a fun activity to help them to get to know their teacher!

The next activity that we did was read the book "First Day Jitters" by Julie Danneberg.

We then worked on completing a first day jitters foldable project to work on our comprehension skills for the story.

Students also completed a survey today explaining to me how they like to learn! I will use this survey to help guide my instruction.

Watch out for...........

Coming home on the first day of school will be a brightly colored packet.  The packet will include:
Contact Information
Our Daily Schedule
Specials Schedule
Remind App Information
Homework Policy
Important Information
Welcome Back Letter

Please take the time to look through this!

A Look Around Our Room

Take A Look Around Our Classroom!

Our classroom motto will be RESPECT this year!

Here is our job leader chart and our calendar. We will post our lunch calendar here also!

Our weekly star student  will have their own bulletin board. They will get to answer the questions on the board and bring in pictures to decorate the board with!

This is our new behavior system!  I hope that everyone remains a Mighty Forester everyday!

Here is our reading center! Our books are leveled so that everyone can find a book that is "just right"!

This is our "Proud Wall".  Students can hang any work that they are proud of on this wall for everyone to see!  There is also a small table that serves as a place for students to work at, a listening center, and a place to work on the iPad.

Next to the proud wall is Homeworkopoly! To read more about Homeworkopoly visit our class website!

Here is a view of our classroom from the doorway!

Here is a look at our closets where we store our coats and bookbags.

Each day prior to leaving, students will think about what "stuck with them".  This will allow them to think about the learning that happened for the day and allow me a quick assessment of what they really learned.

Here is our birthday wall! On the first day of school I will take each student's picture holding their birthday. We will put their picture under the correct month of their birthday!

Behavior System

A few years ago the school adopted a behavior system for grades Pre-K through 6th grade called PBIS.  This year we will not be using this behavior system as it is under construction. A team will be working on revamping the system to make it work better for our school.

This year third grade chose to use a similar behavior system. This behavior system has clearly defined expectations that are taught to students throughout the school year.  We will teach our students what their expected behavior is in the classroom, hallways, recess, cafeteria, bus, gym, and breakfast.  The behavior system has a reward system for appropriate behavior and also consequences for problem behavior. This behavior system allows students to move upward and downward throughout the day.  All students will start on "Ready to Learn".

The following is the behavior chart that will appear in third grade classrooms.

REMIND APP

The Remind App is a great way for ongoing communication.  The app allows me to send important messages to ALL parents that are signed up. It also allows me to send files such as study guides that your child may have forgot in school.  You can choose to see the message through an app on your phone or e-mail.  This app also allows the parent and teacher to communicate one on one.  One on one communication can be set up to allow the messages to be in "email form" or "text message form".

You can sign up in numerous ways:
On your computer go to the following link: https://www.remind.com/join/k6g8h
On your smartphone open your web browser and go to the following link: rmd.at/k6g8h (Follow the instructions for Remind. You will be prompted to download the mobile app)
If you don't have a smartphone, you can still get text notifications.   Text the message @k6g8h to the number 81010.
